We host classes for pottery, painting, drawing, and more! Our schedule is always changing, so be sure to check back often.

Classes are where your membership really kicks in. If you plan to take a lot of classes (or even just a few), the discounts members get on classes more than pays for your membership. Just our little way of saying thank you and encouraging you to explore your love for art!

How to Sign Up

There are a few ways you can sign up for classes:

  • Call us at 850-640-3670 to sign up and pay over the phone.

  • Come in to the Center for the Arts to sign up and pay for your class in person

 

We take all credit cards, cash, or check. Checks must be made payable to Bay Arts Alliance.

Refund Policy: 

Please double check your schedule when you sign up for a class because all classes, workshops, and series offered by the Center for the Arts are non-refundable. 

 

Refunds are typically only made if there are unforeseeable circumstances with the instructor or facility. But we also refund classes due to unforeseen health circumstances. We never want you to feel that you have to attend class when you're feeling sick.

 

The Center for the Arts will contact you if there is a refund to be issued along with any further instructions necessary. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please feel free to email us at info@pccenterforthearts.com.

Date Night Wheel Throwing

Come with a friend or partner to try your hand at wheel throwing! Instructor Javi will show you how to center and pull clay to create your own pieces.

 

Clay is included and each group will get to choose 3-4 pieces to keep. Each group will share one wheel. Your pieces will be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after class.

Pottery Workshop

Kids Wheel Throwing

Join our instructor, Javi, as she teaches kids the basics to wheel throwing. This will include centering, opening, and forming pieces on the wheel. Students can choose 3-4 items to keep that will be ready for pick up in two weeks. All supplies are included. 

 

Wednesday, August 12 • 10-12pm

Ages: 12 & up

Cost: $65 members ($75 non-members)

Coffee & Canvas

Come join us for a fun morning of canvas painting with instructor Kevin Collier while he gives you step-by-step instructions on how to create your own 16x20 masterpiece.

 

This is a BYOC, bring your own coffee, class where you can enjoy your favorite cup of joe with friends!

Kids Drawing: Fundamentals

Students will learn drills and skills to stop drawing with their head and start drawing with their eyes.

 

They will focus on the use of line, value, and gesture to bring life and feeling to their art.

Kids in Art Class

Matting & Framing Workshop

Join instructor, Stephanie Crow, as she teaches you the basics of properly matting, framing, and wiring your artwork. Each student will practice with a 5x7 frame. Once you have completed the course, you are welcome to come to our open matting studio to mat and frame your artwork. 

 

Thursday, August 20 • 5:30-6:30pm

Kids Hand Building Pottery: Decorated Whistle

Join our instructor, Javi, as she teaches kids step by step how to create their own clay whistle. She will share the techniques needed to create the structure of a whistle then students will get to design the outside.

 

Items will be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after class.

Pottery Class

Intermediate Pottery

Join instructor Javi as she teaches you the tips and techniques used for throwing a teapot. There will be a demonstration then students will be able to practice on their own wheel.

 

This class is meant for students who already can independently center, open and pull clay.

 

This class does not include clay because most of our intermediate students have clay left over from previous classes. If you do not have clay, you can purchase a bag from us for $20.

 

You will be able to keep 3-4 items you create that will include the cost of glaze. 

Tuesday, August 25 (5-7:30pm) and Thursday, August 27 (5-7:30pm)

Ages: 16 & up 
Cost: $175 Member ($185 non-member)

Eco-Art Therapy:

Nature Mandalas

Join instructor Veronica Murray as she teaches you how to let nature nourish your physical, emotional, and spiritual being through creating a nature mandala. 

This class is about the act of making art and communicating and expressing through your creation rather than making something pretty to take home.

Zoom Class: Watercolor for Super Beginners

Come join experienced watercolor artist, Heather Clements, as she teaches you watercolor techniques via Zoom!

 

Take the mystery out of watercolor and get a kickstart into this fun and versatile medium. Learn the super basics of watercolor AND come out of the class with your very own landscape painting.

This is a virtual class via Zoom. We will email the Zoom link to each student the morning of the class.

Basket Weaving

Discover the joy of weaving an heirloom basket!

 

This sturdy basket is woven on a 10” square hoop and is the perfect size for taking to the local farmer’s market or gathering vegetables or flowers from your garden.

 

Instruction will include basic basket weaving techniques and would be appropriate for both beginner and intermediate basket weavers. Weave the basket then use your creativity with natural materials to embellish and make it your very own.

 

All basketry tools, materials and supplies will be provided. Attendees should bring an old bath towel.

Basket Weaving

Handbuild Pottery Lesson

We are currently searching for a new pottery teacher to help lead lessons. Until we find someone, handbuild pottery lessons are on hold. If you know someone who many be interested in teaching, please have them email tori@bayarts.org.

Sign up in advance to come to our pottery studio on Saturdays to learn hand building skills to make whatever you want: a bowl, cup, plate, or sculpture. You pick the project and our pottery teacher, Sara, will teach you how to make it!

Saturdays (by appointment) • 10am

Ages: All ages. Students 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Cost: Variable. $25 for the first day's instruction, plus a 25¢ fee per square inch of your creation. There is a one-time $17 fee for a bag of clay that can be re-used on each trip until you run out.

After your first lesson, the daily open studio fee is $10.

Summer Art Camp

Every summer we host Summer Art Camp for several weeks (Monday–Friday).

 

Each day features a two new art projects, so kids can come create art all summer long!
